Ballistic Calibration Examples - Tactical CQ and Gen 3
Examples of how various cartridges will perform on the Gen-3, Ballistic CQ, and Ballistic CQ-1X reticles.
Match your cartridge (or closest equivalent) to get a good idea of where your shot will fall, using each of the reticle hash marks. For example, if you are using the Gen 3 reticle, with a 5.56 62-grain round, your bullet will fall at 100 yards for each hash mark. If you use a 55-grain round, the bullet will drop more after 500 yards: instead of hitting 1,000 yards with the lowest hash mark, you'll be at 935 yards.
Simplification & Refinement of Your Ballistics
Depending on the exact ammunition performance, your gun’s barrel length, the elevation, and any extreme temperatures, your specific ballistic performance may differ slightly from those shown on this page. Since the vast majority of shooting is done inside of 500 yards, we suggest that you select either 300 or 400 yards and sight-in with the corresponding ballistics characteristic of the reticle. This will provide you the best intermediate to long range calibration and the errors at closer distances are then usually minimal enough to disregard. Several examples of this methodology are shown in the calibration examples below.
